Dear Ezra and Lian,
“It’s better to hear NO from a good woman for a good reason than to hear YES from a bad woman for a bad reason.” Your Dad
Ezra, One of the most dangerous things in the world is a man who’s been rejected. School, sport teams, jobs, friends and women. They will all reject us men one time or other. So what are you going to do? Go crazy? Prove your worth by wrecking violence upon the world? Retreat into your hidey-hole? I hope not.
It’s like the rain. It’s part of life. You don’t have to stand outside and get wet. Just grab a jacket and get on with life. If you need a friend to help you through it when you can’t handle the flood of emotions, call on me.
Zsa Zsa Gabor famously said, “You never really know a man until you have divorced him.” After spending a few years in the dark world of divorce and separation, I know it’s true. This is an ugly place filled with revenge, addiction, dysfunction, anger and bitterness. I hope I have dodged most of that. Most really have not. Even though this life doesn’t feel like the best me, I hope it is has revealed the best of my core principles. You will have to ask your Mom whether it revealed the best or worst of me.
Lian, I hope you learn how to strongly and repeatedly say NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO! I hope Ezra and I can give you the confidence to do that your whole life. Remember, I’ve got your back and will support you. If anybody has a problem with those 2 little letters let me know and I will straighten him out.
Love you always,
